My Go-To Combo for Endurance: Why Beetroot Powder and Beta-Alanine Work So Well Together
When I train, I don’t just want to show up—I want to last longer, stay sharp, and finish strong. That’s why I’m always looking for ingredients that support real performance, not just hype. Two of my personal favorites both on their own and in combination are beetroot powder and beta-alanine. You’ll find them together in our endurance-focused formula at Brother Barbell, and for good reason.
Let me break down why they work and why they work even better together.
Beetroot Powder: Nitric Oxide Powerhouse
Beetroot powder is one of the cleanest, most effective ways to boost nitric oxide (NO) levels naturally. When you consume beets, your body converts the nitrates into nitric oxide, which dilates your blood vessels and increases blood flow. That means:
More oxygen and nutrients delivered to working muscles
Lower perceived exertion during exercise
Better muscular endurance and stamina
The result? You can go longer and harder before fatigue sets in. I’ve used beetroot personally during my own prep phases and cardio conditioning blocks, and it always makes a noticeable difference especially when I do weight training and Muay Thai.
Beta-Alanine: The Muscle Buffer
Beta-alanine works a little differently. Once it’s in your system, it helps your body produce carnosine, a dipeptide stored in muscle that buffers lactic acid. That buffering power is what allows you to push through the burn during high-intensity efforts whether that’s sprinting, cycling, or grinding out a final set.
In other words, beta-alanine helps you delay muscular fatigue, especially in efforts lasting 60 seconds to several minutes where lactate accumulation is highest.
You’ll know it’s working because of the tingling (paresthesia) you feel when taking it. That sensation is temporary, but the effects over time are long-lasting beta-alanine builds up in your system, so the benefits become more pronounced with regular use.
Why the Combo Works So Well
On their own, beetroot and beta-alanine target different aspects of endurance oxygen delivery vs. acid buffering. But when taken together, they complement each other beautifully:
Beetroot improves oxygen and nutrient flow, so your muscles can stay efficient for longer
Beta-alanine delays fatigue at the muscular level, so you can actually use that oxygen more effectively
The combo supports both aerobic and anaerobic endurance, making it ideal for hybrid athletes, functional fitness, and serious lifters alike
It’s one of those stacks where 1 + 1 really does equal 3. You feel more locked in, less gassed, and more resilient even deep into a tough session.
Why I Included Them in Endurablend
When I formulated Endurablend for Brother Barbell, beetroot and beta-alanine were non-negotiables. But I didn’t stop there we paired them with Celtic sea salt for hydration support and clean mineral replenishment, because endurance isn’t just about pushing it’s about staying balanced while you do it.
No artificial flavors, no dyes, no cheap fillers just ingredients that work, in doses that make a difference.
If you’re someone who thrives on the grind whether it’s in a high-volume strength block, long-distance runs, or intense metcons—this combo will support you every step (or rep) of the way. And like everything we make at Brother Barbell, it’s built around real results, not gimmicks.
